  • Course model: pre-reading material and assessment to enable a good background understanding of the concepts covered prior to attendance; 2 day face-to-face practical weekend workshop in Milton Keynes.  The course runs from approximately 9.30am to 4.30pm Saturday and Sunday.

  • You will receive: written theoretical and educational material; assessment paper; basic hypnosis scripts and rapid techniques; practical training; attendance certificate pertaining to approx. 37 hours of tuition through external reading and attendance at the practical weekend.

  • Learning outcomes: by the end of this course you should have a sound basic knowledge of what your patient is feeling and why; an understanding of what in-practice methods you can use to assist the anxious patient; plus a working knowledge in the use of techniques.  You will have learnt skills to deliver rapid inductions, distraction techniques, engage the logical mind, identify contra-indicators, and know how to build rapport, positive belief and expectation in your patient. 

This course will cover:

 

  • An introduction to hypnosis and its history. 

  • What hypnosis can and can't do - dispelling the myths.

  • The professional use of hypnosis.

  • What is the subconscious and what does it do?

  • The mind/body response - fight or flight?

  • Working with patients - rapport, positivity, belief and expectation.

  • The use of positive language - what is positive language? The do's and the do nots

  • False beliefs and childhood conditioning, why is your patient nervous?

  • Fear or phobia?

  • Inducing the state of hypnosis.

  • Fear, tension Pain Syndrome

  • What suggestion, imagination and distraction techniques can achieve.

  • Contra-indicators and ethical considerations.

  • Overview of dental fears and phobias - gag reflex; needles; white coat syndrome; pain; authority; past experiences.

  • Confidence building.

  • Abreactions - what they are and how to deal with them

  • Practical work - the delivery of hypnosis.
